Massonia pustulata Jacq is a curious bulbous plant with a prostate bearing. They have 2 opposite leaves,; up to 10 cm long, round in shape, dark green in color with marked veins on the upper surface and covered with small pustules. The flowers appear in the center of the plant and are white or cream in color.

Genus named after Francis Masson, a Scottish student gardener at Kew who was sent to the Cape by Sir Joseph Banks in 1772 to collect seeds.
