Medinilla coccinea 'Gregori Hambali' is a cultivar of Medinilla coccinea Baker f. Because of the myriad of colours it displays, its texture and absolutely breathtaking appearance, it is one of our favourite foliage plants. Vibrant, pink flowers form along the upright stems of this rare plant from New Guinea. Its broad, deeply veined leaves with purple to reddish undersides protect the column of flowers clustered along the stems.; As the plant matures, the vibrant show of foliage and flowers becomes more wondrous.
Medinilla is named for José de Medinilla y Pineda, who was governor of Mauritius (then known as the Marianne Islands) in 1820.
Gregori Hambali is a very famous Indonesian plant grower and hybridizer to whom we owe a myriad of beautiful hybrids, especially Aglaonema ones.
