Philodendron hederaceum var. oxycardium, often still sold as Philodendron scandens, is the classic heartleaf philodendron grown for glossy green leaves and a forgiving trailing or climbing habit. It is one of the easiest aroids to fit into an indoor collection because it can hang, climb, or be pruned into a denser shape depending on the space available. Vines can reach 2–3 m indoors when left to run.
Bright, indirect light keeps growth strongest, though medium light is tolerated, and watering after the top 15–20% of substrate has dried helps avoid soggy-root problems without forcing hard drought cycles. It grows well around 18–27 °C in an airy mix with bark, coir, and perlite and adapts to average humidity.
Like all philodendrons, it contains calcium oxalate and should be kept away from pets and children.
