One of the most sought-after Anthuriums, for its almost-black, velvety foliage and cordate leaves, Anthurium 'Ace of Spades' is a herbaceous evergreen plant. It has deep red leaves when juvenile, which change to iridescent bronze before maturing to a velvety blackish-green. It is a hybrid of unknown parentage and origin.
The genus name Anthurium is derived form Greek ánthos "flower" + ourá "tail" + New Latin -ium -ium . A very literal translation of this would be 'flowering tail'.
