The wonderfully velvety Anthurium waterburyanum Croat (ined.) belongs to section Cardiolonchium. Petioles terete, nrrowly and obtusely sulcate; weakly glossy. Leaf blades subcoriaceous,dark green and matte sub-velvety above, moderately paler and semi-glosssy below.
The genus name Anthurium is derived from Greek ánthos "flower" + ourá "tail" + New Latin -ium -ium . A very literal translation of this would be 'flowering tail'.
