Philodendron 'Florida Beauty' aka 'Magic Mask'

Philodendron 'Florida beauty' is a variegated variety of Philodendron 'Florida' which is a hybrid of Philodendron pedatum Kunth and Philodendron squamiferum Poepp. & Endl. produced in Florida by Robert McColley from his breeding program in the 1950's.  It has beautiful, multi-lobed, variegated leaves with a single large lower lobe. Every leaf presents a unique variegation pattern. Petioles are dark red and scaly. It is a hemi-epiphyte and quick and easy grower. known as Philodendron 'Magic Mask' in the hobby. It is scandent and will climb given suitable support.


From the Modern Latin genus name Philodendron (Schott, 1830), from Greek philodendron, neuter of philodendros "loving trees," from philo- "loving" (see philo-) + dendron "tree" (from PIE *der-drew-, from root *deru- "to be firm, solid, steadfast," also forming words for "wood, tree"). The plant so called because it clings to trees.
