Rhaphidophora foraminifera houseplants

Rhaphidophora foraminifera Engl. is a moderate to large, robust, pachycaul, homeophyllous liane to 15 m. Adult shoots are comprised of elongated, clinging, physiognomically monopodial, densely leafy, tems and shorter clinging, sympodial, densely leafy, flowering stems. Stems are smooth, mid-green. Petioles are canaliculate, smooth for the most part but upper 2 - 4 cm and apical geniculum densely pubescent. Leaf lamina entire to slightly or extensively perforated, perforations round to rhombic, extending c.c. 1/4 of lamina width on each side of the midrib, ovate to oblong-lanceolate or oblong-elliptic, slightly oblique, pubescent abaxially when young, membranous to sub-coriaceous.

Genus name comes form greek rhaphis, rhaphidos (needle) and pher6 (I bear); refers to the macroscopic (to 1 cm long), needle-like unicellular trichosclereids present in tissues.
