Syngonium steyermarkii

Syngonium steyermarkii Croat is definitely our favourite Syngonium. its wonderful foliage is marked with conspicuous venation which gives the leaves a somewhat embossed look. This aroid is a hemiepiphytic creeper; and is unique in having incised-lobate leaves like those of Philodendron radiatum Schott.

The species is named in honor of Julian A. Steyermark who made three collections of it between 1940 and 1942 in three different departments of Guatemala.

Genus name form new Latin, name of the genus comes form the Greek words σύν ( syn - plus, z) and γονή ( gone - gonada) and refers to the fused ovaries of female flowers.
