Adansonia digitata houseplant

Adansonia digitata L. - the baobab - is the most widespread species of the genus Adansonia, native to the African continent and typically found in dry, hot savannahs of sub-Saharan Africa, where they reveal the presence of a watercourse. It is known both for its height and trunk's girth, as it grows to between 5–30 m in height. Of course, it usually stays under 50 cm; if grown in a pot as a houseplant. The trunk is bottle-shaped, with the span of the roots usually exceeding the tree's height, a factor that actually enables it to survive in a very dry climate.

;

he name Adansonia was given to this tree to commemorate the French surgeon Michel Adanson (1727-1806); the species name digitata meaning hand-like, is in reference to the shape of the leaves.
