Philodendron 'Burgundy princess' houseplants
  • Philodendron 'Burgundy princess' is a scandent hybrid philodendron which features colorful, variegated foliage and an upright, vining habit.  The major difference between Philodendron 'Pink princess' and the 'Burgundy princess' is in the color of their respective foliage. The variegation of the 'Pink princess' is pale pink in color. The 'Burgundy princess' plant has leaves that have much darker variegation. Leaf blades are cordate, dark purple. The coloration is very variable, emerging as large splotches, small streaks, or occasionally an entire leaf.

These plants grow much better in low-light conditions and can suffer if exposed to bright light (sunlight or artificial plant light).

form the Modern Latin genus name Philodendron (Schott, 1830), form Greek philodendron, neuter of philodendrons "loving trees," form philo- "loving" (see philo-) + dendron "tree" (form PIE *der-drew-, form root *deru- "to be firm, solid, steadfast," also forming words for "wood, tree"). The plant so called because it clings to trees.
