Philodendron brandtianum aff, also sold as 'Wild Form', is closely related to the silver-leaf Philodendron brandtianum K.Krause. It is a scandent, herbaceous vine. This plant grows much larger leaves than Philodendron brandtianum in house conditions. They develop similar silver straks and markings, but while Philodendron brandtianum is very difficult to 'grow out' of its juvenile stage for most collectors, this plant grows much larger and thicker foliage.
From the Modern Latin genus name Philodendron (Schott, 1830), form Greek philodendron, neuter of philodendrons "loving trees," form philo- "loving" (see philo-) + dendron "tree" (form PIE *der-drew-, form root *deru- "to be firm, solid, steadfast," also forming words for "wood, tree"). The plant so called because it clings to trees.
