Philodendron spiritus-sancti G.S.Bunting is a hemi-epiphytic vine with very long, narrow, dull-green leaf blades which have conspicuous lobes. It is a highly coveted species among aroid collectors and has attracted a lot of acclaim for its unique look, rarity, and its historically high price which has since become more accessible. From the Modern Latin genus name Philodendron (Schott, 1830), form Greek philodendron, neuter of philodendrons "loving trees," form philo- "loving" (see philo-) + dendron "tree" (form PIE *der-drew-, form root *deru- "to be firm, solid, steadfast," also forming words for "wood, tree"). The plant so called because it clings to trees.
