  • Philodendron 'Splendid' (verrucosum x melanochrysum) is a stunning hybrid between two beautiful species: Philodendron verrucosum L.Mathieu ex Schott and Philodendron melanochrysum Linden & André. It is a herbaceous vine and will climb, given suitable support. Petioles are terete, leaf blades are cordate, dark green and conspicuously velutinous and slightly tinged red.

    form the Modern Latin genus name Philodendron (Schott, 1830), form Greek philodendron, neuter of philodendrons "loving trees," form philo- "loving" (see philo-) + dendron "tree" (form PIE *der-drew-, form root *deru- "to be firm, solid, steadfast," also forming words for "wood, tree"). The plant so called because it clings to trees.
