Piper sarmentosum
  • Piper sarmentosum Roxb. is a sprawling herbaceous creeper or climber, growing mostly close to the ground and forming mounds. Its stems are slightly pubescent and its foliage is heart-shaped, glossy dark green with very prominent venation. The leaves emit a pungent peppery scent when crushed.

     

    Genus name: Latin piper, form Ancient Greek πέπερι (péperi, “pepper”), form Sanskrit पिप्पलि (pippali, “Piper longum”).

    • Piper sarmentosum is ca. 150 cm tall and comes in a 27 cm pot.
