Epiphyllum guatemalense

Epiphyllum guatemalense Britton & Rose has a very special appearance. The leaves of this hanging plant are curly and grow in all directions, which is why it is also called the Curly Cactus. This species has wavy stems that look like thick locks of hair, particularly in more mature specimens with long stems that twist and turn as they trail. They have prominent midribs, and bear blooms that are three inches wide and white, which open at night. Flowers give way to rounded, pink fruit. The cactus is not very difficult to care for. In spring and summer, flowers may appear at the ends of the leaves followed by beautiful pink fruits.

The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek words "έπί" for on and "φύλλον" for leaf, means on the leaf and refers to the origin of the flowers on the leaf-like shoots
