Piper sarmentosum Roxb. is a sprawling herbaceous creeper or climber, growing mostly close to the ground and forming mounds. Its stems are slightly pubescent and its foliage is heart-shaped, glossy dark green with very prominent venation. The leaves emit a pungent peppery scent when crushed.
