Philodendron erubescens 'Red Emerald' is one of the most popular Philodendron cultivars. It is characterised by its scandent habit and beautifully coloured - deep red petioles and stems.
Petioles are flattened on the upper surface, especially towards the apex, terete below, leaf blades are herbaceous, elongate ovate-triangular sagittate. It is a very quick and easy grower and will climb given suitable support.
form the Modern Latin genus name Philodendron (Schott, 1830), form Greek philodendron, neuter of philodendrons "loving trees," form philo- "loving" (see philo-) + dendron "tree" (form PIE *der-drew-, form root *deru- "to be firm, solid, steadfast," also forming words for "wood, tree"). The plant so called because it clings to trees.
